Report Published by the Investigation Committee on the Misbehaviour to Health Workers
The investigation committee formed for the inquiry of the case of misbehaviour to health workers of Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj has published a report on June 2, 2021.
According to Chief District Officer Shiva Ram Gelal, the investigation committee has recommended taking action against the perpetrators.
According to the report, Bheri Hospital has been admitting and treating patients beyond their capacity during the ongoing crisis and has been saving the lives of many patients. But there exists a gap in integrated service delivery, the patient’s family have to roam around for urgent services. Similarly, the public notices for service related to the treatment of COVID-19 are not effective for the beneficiaries. Such problems have brought dissatisfaction to the general public.
Likewise, the report also mentions that there is a lack of human resource and the approved positions are also vacant. The hospital has failed to prevent the entry of unauthorized persons into very sensitive wards like ICUs. There is mismanagement of visiting hours and the hospital has not been able to fit CCTV cameras for the security of sensitive wards. Although Bheri Hospital has been listed under the specialized hospital by the Government of Nepal from the fiscal year 2021/22, there are lapses in proper management.
The health workers at Bheri Hospital were beaten and abused on the night of May 27 after the death of a COVID patient. Police had arrested three people on the same day on the charge of misbehaving with the health workers.
The incident was widely criticized and the protestors demanded justice after which a committee of seven members was formed for investigation under the chairmanship of Banke’s Assistant Chief District Officer Shankar Bahadur Bista.
