Rape Accused Arrested

Police have arrested Sunil Mahato, 27, of Birjung Metropolitan-21 and Shivabalak Mahato, 25, of Pokhariya Municipality-6 on July 14, 2021, in accusation of raping a 19-year-old woman.

The victim is a resident of Rukum. She had complained against Sunil Mahato on July 14 at the District Police Office. Sunil is a truck driver of a truck numbered- Na. 5. Kha 2870. The health checkup of the victim was conducted on July 15, 2021, at Narayani Hospital of Birjung.

The victim said she was waiting for a public vehicle with her two-year-old son to reach Butwal from Kalanki when Mahato offered to drop her till Narayangadh. She had boarded the truck from Kalanki.

The victim has alleged that Mahato raped her in the cabinet of the truck after they were stuck in a traffic jam of Chitwan because of a landslide.

After the traffic jam was opened on July 12, Mahato brought the woman to Ramnagar in Chitwan at 1 pm and boarded her to Shivabalak Mahato’s truck (Na. 6. Kha. 3369). The victim said that she was sent into the truck saying that the truck was going to Butwal.

But Shivabalak’s truck was headed to Birgunj and even he raped her multiple times taking the advantage of the lonely road section of Pathlaiya Amalekhgunj’s forest area, added the victim.

The victim has alleged that accused Mahato had asked his helper Indal Chauhan, 27, of the same place to drop her to the dry-port (mid-way road section of Parawanipur) but he along with Bhola Prasad, 40, of Katibaluwa Tole of Pakahamayinpur Rural Municipality had stopped the vehicle at the dry port (between Parwanipur road section), raped her taking turns and left her stranded at the dry-port.

According to DSP Omprakash Khanal of District Police Office, Parsa, the woman was found and rescued by a patrol team of Sirsiya Police Station at around 5 pm.

The police have arrested Sunil Mahato and Shivabalak Mahato along with their respective trucks. The other two accused of the incident have not been arrested and a search is ongoing, said DSP Khanal.
