Rape Accused Arrested
The 41-year-old woman has alleged Khadga Bahadur Rai, 68, of Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality-9 of sexually abusing her for the past four years since June 16, 2016, by pressuring her to repay the loan taken at interest.
The victim spoke up in a press conference held on March 27, 2020. She said, “I took a loan of Rs. 6,000 from my neighbor Khadga Bahadur on June 16, 2016, due to my poor fragile financial condition.
Despite taking the loan on the condition of paying interest, Khadga Bahadur has been threatening to kill her since June 16, calling her to work at home and sexually abusing her after work.
The victim told a press conference that Khadga Bahadur used to rape her after she had completed her agricultural works and he also threatened to kill her if she informed anyone about the situation.
According to the victim, Rai came to her house and raped her when her 70-year-old husband was working in the field and since 2018, he has been molesting her regularly.
After she informed her husband about the incident, they decided not to go to Khadga Bahadur’s place for work but Rai had been pressuring her to repay the loan every day.
The victim told a press conference that the villagers were scared of Khadga Bahadur who was threatening all the neighbors.
The victim told a press conference that she had come to Salleri to lodge a complaint with the village women’s leader due to fear of insecurity.
A complaint has been lodged against Khadga Bahadur at the District Police Office, Solukhumbu on March 1, 2021, with the help of the Inter-Party Women’s Network.
According to Inspector Mahendra Darnal of the District Police Office, the accused was arrested on March 1 on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim.
District Court Judge Mahendra Raj Kafle has ordered to demand bail of Rs. 120,000 from the accused on March 24.
The victim told a press conference that they could not get justice after the court released the accused on bail without calling the victim for a statement.
Accused Khadga Bahadur said in a phone call with the INSEC representative that he had not raped or sexually abused anyone.
The victim has been examined at the District Hospital on March 1, 2021.
