The depots and sales centres of the Nepal Food Corporation in Soru and Khatyad have been in dreadful condition due to lack of food.

The Soru Depot of Soru Municipality and the Tatapani Sales Centre of Khatyad Municipality has been in charge of transporting food in concession for a month but since the contractor could not supply the food, the crisis was created.

Puran Nepali of Soru Rural Municipality-4 said that there was a problem after the employees locked the office and walked to the district headquarters saying that the contractor did not transport food-provision to both places.

‘Food Corporation’s rice cheaper than that of the market. The price of 30 kg of concessional rice is Rs 1,400 to Rs 1,550 while the market price of rice is Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,200, ‘said Nepali.

While the Khatyad municipality has banned people from moving from one village to another to control COVID transmission, the general public has not got food to eat.

Chairman of Khatyad Rural Municipality Ubjan Shahi said that the Food Corporation has been requested to transport food immediately after receiving information that there was no food at the Tatapani sales center.

A total of 2,000 quintals quota has been fixed at the Soru depot in Soru rural municipality for the current fiscal year from Rs 1,000 from Mugu and Rs 1,000 from Surkhet.

Puskar Bham, information officer at the Mugu branch of the Nepal Food Corporation, said that they have written to the contractor of Sharma Transport Service and Baral Transport Service for Tatapani
