Problems in Service Delivery Due to Health Center Being Operated in Agricultural Service Center Building
The basic health center, situated within the space of the Agricultural Service Center in Tansen Municipality-7, Kunsare for the past eight years, has been experiencing significant challenges in service delivery due to an increase in the number of patients.
Patients from Tansen Municipality Wards 6, 7, and 8, as well as Baganaskali Rural Municipality Wards 1, 2, and 9, visit this health center. Although it serves up to 30 patients daily, the limited space results in long wait times. Kamala Nepali, a resident of Tansen Municipality-7 who regularly visits the center for pregnancy check-ups, mentioned that the small rooms cause patients to wait longer for services. The basic health center has only one bed for examining patients, creating challenges for privacy. Some patients feel uncomfortable discussing their health concerns openly with the medical staff because others are waiting in the same room. Kamala Nepali added that although the center is conveniently located for many, the Rural Municipality should take steps to make the facility more organized and efficient. Likewise, Rita Bhattarai, a female health volunteer from Tansen Municipality-7, mentioned that they often refer patients to the service centers within the Rural Municipality. She noted that the center’s room is small, and patients cannot receive the required services. Sarita Khanal, a resident, shared that she had to wait for an hour to have her blood pressure checked. She explained that all patients receive services in the same room and use the same bed. As a result, when one patient is using the bed, others have to wait.
Health Assistant Sobha Bishwakarma from the Basic Health Center reported that there are three health workers, employed at the facility. She expressed that despite their efforts to offer quality care, they have been unable to meet expectations due to insufficient equipment and limited space in the narrow rooms. Jhabindra Neupane, Chief of the Tansen Municipality Health Branch, stated that the health center treats numerous citizens under challenging conditions. He explained that all services are currently provided from a single room. Neupane mentioned that they are planning to improve the management of the center in coordination with the Municipality and the Ward office shortly.
