Prisoner Died During Treatment
Saroj Bista (also known as Shere), aged 24, from Dogdakedar Rural Municipality-5 in Baitadi District, who was serving his imprisonment in Kailali District Jail, passed away on July 24, 2023 at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi.
According to Padam Timilsina, the jailer of Kailali District Jail, Saroj Bista, who was serving his sentence in the prison for theft, unexpectedly faced health issues on July 19. He passed away while receiving treatment on a ventilator at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi.
As stated by Jailer Timilsina, after arriving at the prison, it was observed that Bista was suffering from tuberculosis. Therefore, he was placed under the regular supervision of the Seti Provincial Hospital’s DOTS TB (Tuberculosis) doctor and was provided with appropriate medication after conducting check-ups.
A complaint was lodged against Bista on February 19, 2075, at the District Police Office, Kailali. The District Court, Kailali, found him guilty on March 3, 2075, and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment along with a fine of 50,000 rupees.
According to jailer Timilsina, the post-mortem of the body was conducted on July 24 at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi, and it was subsequently handed over to the deceased’s relatives. Damodar Bista, the father of the deceased, mentioned that the cremation took place in Godavari on the same day, July 24.
