Political Parties Commit Not Using Schools and Children in the Election
The active political parties in Karnali Province have expressed their commitment not to involve schools and children in the election campaigning and promotion activities.
The commitment was made by eight different political parties on April 30, 2022, at a program organized by the Joint Campaign for Child Rights in Karnali.
Stating that schools and children are a zone of peace, the political parties have committed not to get involved in any activities such as public meetings, processions and rallies, said Tikaram Acharya, Province Coordinator of the campaign.
According to Acharya, the political parties have made the commitment in accordance with the provision in Article 7 of the Children’s Act, 2075 which says the children should not be used for political purposes.
“We do not force children to participate in political parties and to express partisan views. We do not use proverbs to say that the views expressed by the political parties and the leadership will directly affect the children, women, gender and sexual minorities. We will not allow any kind of physical punishment, mental violence, exploitation, abuse and discrimination against children under any pretext in the family, society and school, ”-mentioned in the commitment.
