Police Accused of Abusing Journalist While Taking a Video

Raj Karan Mahato, 29, a resident of Bardibas Municipality-13, Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Mahottari and District Correspondent of Annapurna Post, has accused a policeman of Area Police Office Gaushala of misbehaving with him on April 20, 2021.

According to Mahato, the police misbehaved when he was trying to take a video after a dispute broke out at the Area Police Office, Gaushala.

Journalist Mahato said that the dispute was about two parties filing a financial agreement and he was abused by the police when he tried to capture the incident in a video.

He said the police of the Area Police Office, Gaushala, verbally and physically abused him, took control of the mobile phone and deleted the photo and video.

According to the Area Police Office, Gaushala, they took control of the mobile phone and deleted the photo and video as it was taken without their permission.

Meanwhile, the Mahottari branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the incident in a statement and demanded action against the accused.

A three-member investigation committee has been formed under the coordination of FNCCI Mahottari branch vice-president Hem Kumari Baral Sunita, including joint secretary Ram Narayan Mahato and local journalist Dhanbir Mahato of Gaushala.
