People’s Socialist Party Leader Beaten up in the Police Office
People’s Socialist Party Leaders and Cadres have staged a protest in Rajbiraj after the district president of the party, Kedar Prasad Yadav, 40, from Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-2, Mohanpur was assaulted by inspector Navin Thapa Magar at the District Police Office on 4 April.
Protesters burned tires, shouted slogans and pelted stones in front of the District Police Office, demanding action against the involved policeman. Injured Yadav was treated at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj. According to the injured Yadav, the inspector abused and punched him.
The police said that the accused who was arrested on the charge of making and sharing a tiktok video of a woman bathing was injured in a dispute that broke out after police informed that the accused Yadav couldn’t be released before the completion of the investigation.
All party meeting of the District Coordination Committee held in the evening of 4 April had demanded the suspension and transfer of inspector Magar and four other policemen involved in the incident along. They have also demanded that the injured should be treated and compensated accordingly. The meeting has stated that a memorandum will be submitted to the district administration office with a request of addressing their demands within 24 hours and warned that the protest will be announced if the demands are not met on time.
Federation of Nepali Journalists Saptari has issued a press release expressing regret against the act of denying the entry inside the police office to the journalists who went to collect news of the incident.
