Patients Face Challenges as Financial Shortage Shuts Down Oxygen Plant

Patients at Pashupati Chaulagain Memorial Hospital in the district headquarters are facing difficulties as the oxygen plant has been closed for three months due to a lack of maintenance caused by financial shortages. Bharat Pradhan, Chairperson of the management committee of Pashupati Chaulagain Memorial Provincial Hospital in Dolakha, stated that oxygen production has been stopped for three months due to issues with the main pipe of the oxygen plant.

According to him, the plant has been unable to operate and produce oxygen due to the lack of timely maintenance, leading to the need to either pay more to bring in oxygen from elsewhere or transfer patients to other hospitals. Sanjay Upreti, who came for treatment at Pashupati Chaulagain Memorial Hospital in Melung Rural Municipality-1, stated that he is receiving treatment at a private hospital due to the lack of oxygen. Chairperson Bharat Pradhan stated that spare parts are not available in the country, and the parts should be bought from the company that installed the plant for repairs, which will cost around Rs 10,00,000. He added that the hospital’s lack of funds is causing issues with the plant’s maintenance.

The management has requested funds from the federal and provincial levels to facilitate the repairs. Although they are preparing to bring spare parts from China and conduct the necessary repairs to get the plant operational, Chairperson Pradhan noted that financial shortages are causing difficulties. The oxygen plant was installed in 2020 for Rs 73,73,000.
