Overcrowded prison makes difficulties in management of Inmates

The District prison of Kalikot is overcrowded three times more than its capacity making difficulties on management of inmates and detainees.

The prison building is in dilapidated condition which includes 63 male and 69 female inmates and detainees however it has only capacity to accommodate only 25 of them.

The inmates and detainees are facing issues such as sleeping, eating and using toilets according to acting jailer Mohan Prasad Sharma. The rooms are very congested and most of them are put in one room. Inmates and detainees are sleeping on shift by turn due to the lack of space.

There are no means of entertainment for the inmates and detainees according to one of the inmate Mahendra Shahi. The district prison is graded as “D” and the condition of the building is very bad.
