National Day Against Human Trafficking Observed

A morning rally has been organized in Kathmandu on September 5 on the occasion of National day against Human Trafficking.

The rally began from  Bhrikutimandap with a motto of ” One goal, one theme, Human Trafficking Our Concern” which ended at Kamaladi with a main program.

The chief guest Sushila Karki of Supreme Court said that the incident of human trafficking has been increased and stressed that organizations working in this field must focus their campaign in village level.

She added that most of the cases of Human Trafficking becomes “Hostile” due to the lack of evidences. She added that Nepal Police and attorney generals have been directed to give priority in collecting evidences.

The foreign aid came for controlling human trafficking must be utilized in giving justicce to the victim, she said.

Radhika Acharya, sub-secretary of Women, Children and Social welfare Ministry said that this day is being observed by various organizations, rights activists, civil society and media jointly. Nepal government had approved the SAARC convention against  trafficking of women and children in 2006 September 5 through legislature parliament. Since then, this day is being observed on September 5 every year. She said that, even this year the day will be observed from September 5 to 11.

NHRC spokesperson and member Mohana Ansari said that women under poverty, illiteracy and natural disaster are being main victims of trafficking. She stressed on implementation of law against Human Trafficking
