National Consultation Meeting on CEDAW Shadow Report

A national consultation meeting to discuss on the seventh shadow report of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) was held in Kathmandu on November 21. During the program, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sudi, stated that the government is making progressive efforts for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.

The discussion was held on the shadow report prepared on behalf of over 100 civil society organizations, coordinated by the Secretariat of the CEDAW Committee of the Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Center, the Beyond Beijing Committee, and the Forum for Women, Law, and Development.

Smritha Shrestha, the focal person of the Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Center, informed that a hearing will be held in February 2025 at the United Nations CEDAW Committee during the 89th session of the CEDAW.
