Motorcycle Rally Against Election Code of Conduct 2022

INSEC during a monitoring found that the candidate for the election of the House of Representatives member to be held on April 27, 2024  in Ilam-2 took out a motorcycle rally which is against the election code of conduct 2022. The rally was started in Chulachuli Rural Municipality on April 23 to promote the Mudha (Nepali stool) election symbol of Dakendra Singh Thegim, an independent candidate of  the election.

Chapter four of the The Election Code of Conduct, 2022 : Code of Conduct to be followed by Political Parties, Candidates, Party’s Sister Organizations and Related Persons section 13 of 1 (r) states that : ‘Not to write or cause any type of wall scrawls, to organize rallies or to make campaigning using all types of vehicles including four-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, rickshaws, rickshaws, rickshaws, handcarts, etc. or cause to do so.’ However, it was observed that hundreds of people participated in the rally. It started from Chulachuli Rural Municipality-1 Kamal, passing through wards 1, 2, 4, and 5, and reached Toribari (Madhumalla North) of Ward No. 6.

Program Coordinator Bikram Limbu addressed the assembly in Toribari (Madhumalla North). Similarly, the election assembly was also held in Mangsebung Rural Municipality-6, Chisopani Panchami bajar. Furthermore, Mayor Harka Sampang Rai of Dharan Metropolitancity and the  guest of the election assembly urged the voters to cast their votes in Mudha for making Dakendrasingh Thegim win.
