Minister G.C Emphasizes the Significance of Individual Contributions in Upholding Human Rights Standards
Krishna Bahadur GC, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Law for the Government of Karnali Province, emphasized that the enforcement of national and international human rights standards established by Nepal is a crucial responsibility shared by citizens, government entities, and civil society.He made this statement during his address at the opening session of the workshop on international human rights standards and the development of legislation from a human rights-based perspective.
The event was organized by INSEC Karnali Provincial Office on November 1st in Birendranagar.
He emphasized the necessity for collaborative efforts between local, state, and federal governments to formulate policies and regulations that are supportive of human rights. And that human rights are taken into account in the work done by the state government.
Dr. Kundan Aryal, Chairperson of INSEC said that social justice will be established only if human rights are protected. The protection of human rights is an essential component in the pursuit of social justice, particularly for those who value the significance of the rule of law. Dr. Aryal said, “Nepal has followed international legal standards. People and people’s representatives should be aware to implement it.” He emphasized that all three levels of government have a crucial role to play in ensuring the successful implementation of Nepal’s fifth national action plan on human rights.
Similarly, Karnali State Assembly Member of Parliament Bijaya Budha underscored the need for coordinated efforts to reduce human rights violations and violence against women in the Karnali region.
Former Information and Communication Minister Madhav Paudel expressed that this workshop will play a significant role in advancing civil rights, political rights, and economic, social, and cultural rights.
Narayan Subedi, coordinator of INSEC Karnali State Office, highlighted the purpose of the two-day workshop and informed about the activities carried out by INSEC Karnali State Office.
During the workshop, Pitambar Dhakal, the former Dean and coordinator of the Human Rights Defenders Network, will present the proposed bill that has been prepared by human rights defenders to address the protection of human rights defenders.
The opening session of the workshop was led by Kiran Paudel, the Program Coordinator of the Rights-2 project at INSEC.
The two-day workshop was attended by 30 people, including Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs, Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons, Ministers, officials of subject committees of various local levels of Dailekh, Surkhet.
