Mayor Threatens Journalists
Journalists from Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Gopal Dahal (40) and Janak Rishi Rai (49), have raised concerns over threats issued by Mayor Harka Raj Sampang via Facebook. The threats followed the publication of an investigative report titled “Harka Sampang’s Arbitrary Rule: Dharan in a Mire of Chaos” on December 1, 2024.
Mayor Sampang allegedly threatened to defame Dahal and prevent him from walking with dignity while also targeting Rai, vowing to “fix” him. The Nepal Journalists’ Federation, Sunsari branch, issued a statement condemning the threats made through social media.
While no formal complaint has been filed, the journalists informed District Police Office Superintendent Suman Kumar Timilsina about the threats. Dahal expressed feeling unsafe following the incident.
