Mayor Accused of Threatening A Citizen
Karnachandra Rokaya, 41 of Tripurasundari Municipality-7, Chal village has alleged that the mayor Janachandra Rokaya, 55, has threatened to kill him. The petition submitted by the victim to the District Administration Office, stated that the Mayor of Tripurasundari Municipality Jan Chandra Rokaya, his sons Balchandra Rokaya, 20, and Krishna Rokaya, 24, who live in the same village, threatened to evict him from the village and even to kill him if he disobeyed.
The victim said that because I have a different political ideology from the mayor, he has been threatened numerous times to evict from the village. I submitted a petition to ensure my safety, along with an audio recording of the threat, on January 31, 2023, at the District Administration Office. However, the office did not take any action.
The then Chief District Officer, Bedanidhi Adhikari, and Assistant Chief District Officer, Minraj Rizal, were transferred from the office days after the petition was filed. This resulted in the delay of the hearing. Assistant Chief District Officer, Devi Gyawali, said that immediately after the petition was filed, the office sent the application along with the audio clip to the District Police Office for investigation.
He said the law does not allow anyone to evict the citizen from the village. It is inappropriate for a person like the mayor to threaten to kill a citizen. INSEC representative could not contact the Mayor to get his response.
