Management Crisis in Overcrowded Prison
Gorkha prison is facing a difficulty in management of prisoners and detainees due to overcrowded prison. The prison has a capacity to accommodate 45 prisoners and detainees however there are 83 prisoners which is creating space problem according to jailer Diwakar Paudel.
In women cell there is no problem of over capacity as compared to men according to Paudel. Prisoners and detainees are facing difficulties in going to toilet according to prison guard Narayan Dhakal.
The destruction of prison wall due to the last year earthquake has added more problems in management. It is not repaired yet. Paudel said that the issue has been reported to the management department. The prisoners and detainees are complaining of not having any means of entertainment such as sports, newspapers etc said Dhakal.
