Man Accused Of Assaulting Doctor, Arrested

The police arrested 36-year-old Pemwa Sherpa of Solududhkunda Municipality-5 on the charge of misbehaving with the doctors and health workers of District Hospital Phaplu.

Dr. Prashant Shah, Chief of the District Hospital, reported that the accused individual, who came to the hospital for medical treatment on October 2 following a motorcycle accident, allegedly attempted to vandalize the hospital and misbehaved with the doctors and the health workers.

In response to the accused’s alleged misbehavior while being drunk, the hospital’s doctors and health workers issued a press statement and protested against the incident.

In protest against the incident, doctors and health workers have stopped their services except for emergency services  since October 3.

Inspector Anil Mishra of the District Police Office confirmed that the accused has been arrested, and an investigation into the matter is initiated.

The suspension of other services due to the protest has resulted in difficulties for healthcare patients seeking treatment.

The statement released by doctors and health workers explicitly states that they will discontinue all hospital services, with the exception of emergency care, until the accused are prosecuted in accordance with the Health Workers and Health Institutions Safety Act2009, as amended by the First Amendment Act of 2022.
