A fire broke out in the garage of Padma Acharya Adhikari at the bus park in Chandannath Municipality-6 on June 26 around 9:00 PM. Following the incident, the fire brigade of Chandannath Municipality and the local police administration were promptly notified to control the fire. However, the fire brigade did not reach the scene.

Padma Acharya Adhikari, who suffered fire damage, reported that the Municipal fire department did not arrive to control the fire. It was eventually controlled with the assistance of locals and the Police Administration. However, all the properties in the garage were burnt down.

According to DSP Chedilal Kamati of the District Police Office, the fire was controlled with the help of locals and police. It is reported that residents of Chhingaun and Mahatgaun became angry and vandalized the Municipality after the fire department failed to respond. He added that the windows of the municipal office, fire extinguishers, and excavator have also been vandalized. They have collected the documents of the vehicles in the garage. However, the exact extent of the damage on both sides has not yet been determined.

Two people involved in the vandalism have been arrested. The arrested individuals are 33-year-old Manav Mahat of Chandannath Municipality-6 and 32-year-old Katak Bahadur Rokaya of Ward No-7. The police stated that they are searching for other suspects.

A fire brigade worth Rs 82,00,000 and an excavator worth Rs 38,99,000 were also vandalized. Mayor Rajusingh Kathayat stated that unnecessary vandalism in the Municipality is unacceptable.

Similarly, the house of Deputy Mayor Ramdevi Khadka has also suffered damage. She emphasized that those involved in the vandalism should face appropriate actions. Additionally, the Municipality has called for strict action against individuals who entered the office at night, vandalized, and damaged government property.

Deputy Mayor Khadka stated the fire brigade had been out of service for two weeks. Parts of the fire brigade were sent outside the district for repairs. It couldn’t respond this time due to its current state of disrepair. Vandalizing because the fire brigade didn’t arrive is not justified. Furthermore, the roads are too narrow for the fire brigade to respond quickly. There are no easily accessible routes for the fire brigade to reach the location. Deputy Mayor Khadka explained that the current large fire engine cannot move quickly on narrow roads, so they are preparing to acquire a smaller fire brigade for better mobility.
