After the rain between the 26th and 28th of September washed away the suspension and concrete bridges over the Sunkoshi River, residents of Khandadevi Rural Municipality-1, Kothpe Majhi settlement, had to use tubes to cross the river and reach the health post for treatment. This settlement comprises 50 households.

After the flood swept away the suspension bridge at Beghari, the concrete bridge at Khereni Ghat, and the road in the Kothpe area, residents are dangerously crossing the Sunkoshi River using tubes. A resident, Manav Majhi, mentioned that they had to use tubes to transport patients for treatment. According to Majhi, with no other option available, even pregnant women are forced to cross the river using tubes. He shared that a woman from the area in labor was taken to the Ratmate Health Center of the same rural municipality after being pulled from the tube. “There was no other way. They took the risk and crossed the river using the tube,” he said.

Ramkumar Shrestha, Ward Chairperson of Khandadevi-1, stated that repairs have begun to temporarily restore the suspension bridge at Belari, which was washed away by the Sunkoshi River, and the damaged road is also under repair. According to Shrestha, the situation is complicated as damage has occurred in multiple areas.
