Last Rite Procession of Members of Dalit Community Obstructed, National Dalit Commission Recommends an Investigation
The National Dalit Commission has recommended the District Administration Office Humla, to investigate an incident where a last-right procession of members of the Dalit community, was obstructed and take action against the perpetrator. They were prohibited from using the public road to transport the dead body.
The incident took place when, Karnbir Luwar, son of deceased Padambire Luwar, 74, Chankheli Rural Municipality-4, was stopped from transporting the dead body of his father using a public road on April 2, 2023. Luwar filed a complaint to the National Dalit Commission and INSEC.
Based on the verbal complaint of the victim, after INSEC verbally coordinated with the National Dalit Commission on Apri8, the Commission drew the attention of the district administration office to the incident on 9 April.
Chief District Officer Srinath Poudel said that the District Administration Office instructed the Chankheli Rural Municipality Office on April 17 to investigate the incident.
Chief District Officer Paudel said that he wrote to the Chankheli rural municipality office to convey the facts of the incident. The action will be taken based on the response of the rural municipality.
