Landslide in Lamjung Caused Death of One and Left Four Others Missing

A young man from Chiti Syaut, Besisahar Municipality-11, lost his life in a landslide, while another person was injured due to the incident caused by heavy rainfall. According to police, the landslide occured while they were sleeping during the night of June 25. Bikal Sunar, 17 passed away at Lamjung Hospital in Besisahar, and 18-year-old Milan Sunar, who was also injured, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Similarly, four members of a same family went missing after their house was swept away by a landslide on the night of Tuesday in Kwholasothar Rural Municipality-3, Bagum, Lamjung.

Ward member Bin Bahadur Ghale reported that three houses were washed away, and four people from two of those houses are missing due to the landslide that occurred between 12-1 am. The missing persons include Rudraman Gurung, 69, along with his daughter-in-law Panchakumari Gurung, 37, who lived in a separate house, as well as Panchakumari’s two daughters, 7-year-old Ichya and 5-year-old Namrata.

Locals stated that the landslide washed away the house of Chitra Ghale, the Planning Chief of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality, and Bhim Bahadur Ghale, who was living in the house, was injured. However, Bhim Bahadur managed to survive.

DSP Min Bahadur Ghale mentioned that upon receiving reports of the disappearance, a team led by Police Inspector Tul Bahadur Shrestha from the District Police Office, along with officers from the Maling police post, was deployed to the area.

Detailed information about the incident is yet to come out. Suryaprasad Gurung, Chairperson of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality, stated that they are currently searching for the people who went missing in the landslide.
