Lack of Desks, Benches, and Toilets in School Caused Difficulties in Educational Activity
Due to the lack of physical infrastructure materials and desks at Shri Gayatri Pragya Peeth Gurukul in Kurtha, Janakpurdham Metropolitan City-21, students are compelled to sit on the floor for their lessons. Established in 2019, Shri Gayatri Pragya Peeth Gurukul offers education from pre-primary to grade five. The school currently has three female teachers, two male teachers, and 146 students enrolled.
According to Principal Dilli Pasman, students are forced to sit on the floor due to the lack of desks and benches in the school. He mentioned that as the winter season intensifies, the number of students has also been declining. Furthermore, Pasman explained that the lack of proper toilet facilities at the school has created problems for both teachers and students. Despite repeatedly informing the concerned Ward Chairperson, the mayor of the Municipality, and the Chief of the education department about these issues, the principal expressed dissatisfaction that no one has shown any concern so far. He also stated that these unresolved problems have had a negative impact on teaching and learning.
Teacher Jipchi Devi Mandal said that the condition of this school in Kurtha-21, Janakpurdham Metropolitan City, the capital of Province No. 2 is like that of a school in a remote area. Mandal added that the classrooms in the school do not have enough benches for students to sit on or desks to keep books and study materials. As a result, students are forced to sit on the floor to study. Due to the lack of proper toilet facilities, both teachers and students have to go outside under the open sky when they need to relieve themselves. Because of all these problems, the number of students is decreasing day by day.
Likewise, another teacher Renu Yadav mentioned that although a building for the toilet has been constructed at the school, the lack of a septic tank means students and staff are forced to relieve themselves in the open field. She added that without a toilet, it is difficult for female teachers to change sanitary pads during our menstrual period. She further explained that the lack of proper toilet facilities forces them to go outside, which has also created problems in educational activities.
According to Ward Chairperson Raj Narayan Shah, the lack of a management committee and political disputes have hindered the infrastructure development of the school. However, he assured INSEC Dhanusha representative Santosh Kumar Yadav that the ward will promptly allocate a budget to address the issues faced by students and teachers. This includes developing school infrastructure, repairing old desks and benches, and purchasing sufficient new desks and benches.
