Lack of Bridge Caused Significant Challenges for Students Reaching School in Dadeldhura
Due to the absence of a bridge in Bhalu River, Alital Rural Municipality-7, students are forced to risk their lives to attend school. Those traveling from Parashuram Municipality-11 and Alital Rural Municipality-7 face significant dangers on their way to Mahadev Secondary School in Khinnebhadi.
Ramesh Bohora, a teacher, explained that during high floods, students are unable to attend school because of the missing bridge. He pointed out that students from Bhatteni, Uttarkhed, Jabane Gada, Simalband, Karale, Naranga, Katauja, and Suwakhan are required to cross the river to reach their school. Bohora added that despite repeatedly raising the issue with the Rural Municipality and local leaders, there has been no response regarding the bridge construction. Similarly, student Ramesh Thapa explained that reaching school during the rainy season is very challenging without a bridge. He noted that crossing the river leaves their clothes, books, and notebooks wet, which makes studying difficult. Thapa added that while older students can manage to cross the river on their own, younger children require their parents’ assistance. Consequently, students often miss school for several days during the rainy season.
This issue faced by the community remains unaddressed by local leaders. It is especially distressing to witness women having to wet their clothes while crossing the river. Chairperson Shersingh Parki of Alital Rural Municipality stated that the bridge has not been constructed due to insufficient budget. Furthermore, although the issue was raised with former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, no hearing was conducted. Consequently, discussions are now underway with the provincial and federal governments to address the need for constructing the bridge.
