Karnali Province Initiates Disaster Insurance

Karnali Province has initiated disaster insurance from September 14, 2020.

Chief Minister of the Province, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi provided Rs. 200,000 to Padam Bahadur Budha (52) of Naraharinath-7 Malkot. Budha had lost seven of his family members in the landslide that occurred on 26 July, 2020.

The Karnali provincial government had decided to provide collective insurance to all the affected citizens.
Disaster insurance has been started by sending money to the account of landslide victims in Kalikot. Chief Minister Shahi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Naresh Bhandari and Minister for Social Development Dal Rawal participated in the event.

A sum of Rs 200,000 has been deposited in the account of the victims of the disaster through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Chief District Officer Chandra Prasad Gaire told INSEC representative that the Karnali provincial government has taken a policy of providing additional Rs. 100,000 to those whose houses have been destroyed by the landslide. Those who have lost all their property in the landslide will be provided food for three months by the province, informed Chief District Officer Chandra Prasad Gaire.

In Kalikot, 51 people lost their lives in the landslide and one is undergoing treatment in Kathmandu, said Chief District Officer Gaire.
