Journalist Threatened for Publishing News About Political Party

Narjan Tamang, 31, of Chankheli Rural Municipality-5 Nepka, the District Correspondent of Humla District received a death threat from Pashupati Sanjyal, 26, Narprasad Sanjyal, 28, Binod Sanjyal, 30, of Tanjakot Rural Municipality-4 Gallawada.

Tamang had written about the political dispute for the candidacy for the position of chairperson in the upcoming local level election which affected the image of Lalkesh Jaisi, the joint secretary of the Maoist Centre of Karnali Province.

The news was published on April 22. After the news was published, the accused group who are also the relatives gave a death threat to the victim on April 23.

The accused also wrote derogatory posts on their social media and harassed Tamang via abusive messages. The district branch of Nepal Journalist Association Humla issued a press release on April 24 condemning the incident.

According to Chief District Officer of Humla, a firm decision will be taken after a detailed investigation of the incident by the security agencies.
