Journalist in Sunsari Faced Threats for Publishing News
Rupesh Kumar Mochi, a 21-year-old journalist working for Jasus Khabar, from Harinagar Rural Municipality-2 reported that he received threats. He alleged that he started getting threats from a youth of Muslim community after he wrote a news story about a youth of the Muslim community publicly beating up an individual in name of opposing his religion on 5 April in Harinagar Rural Municipality-2.
Journalist Mochi submitted an application to INSEC and District Administration Office on May 6 demanding security, peace and protection of his life. Subsequently, INSEC in coordination with the District Administration Office and the Police has asked for legal action against the accused. The Declaration on Human Rights Defenders 1998 defines journalists as human rights defenders.
