Journalist Attacked by Unknown Assailants

Sher Bahadur Ayr, a correspondent of Radio Dhangadhi and Dhangadhi Khabar.com, was injured on 12 March 2023 with a sharp weapon.

The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the district police office on 12 March, demanding that the persons who attacked and injured the journalist be arrested and punished.

Journalist Ayr said that he participated in the discussion program organized by the Society of International Medicine of Nepal (SIME) in Dhangadhi on 11 March with doctors about sickle cell anemia and when he was about to go to the toilet, strangers hit him on the head with a sharp object.

The victim journalist Ayer alleged that the medical mafia may have attacked him because he had been broadcasting news about the malpractice happening in the health sector for some time now.

Himal Joshi, the chairperson of the district branch of the Federation of Journalists, said that since the attack was with the intention of killing, the incident is reprehensible, the District Police Office and the District Administration Office have been called to identify the people involved in the incident and take action.

District Police Office, Kailali SP Devendra Pa said that the incident is under investigation.

The victim said that he received treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi on 12 March, and returned home the same day. He sustained severe head injuries from the attack.

Condemning the incident, the Federation of Journalists, Branch Office, Kailali, and Radio Dhangadhi issued a statement on 12 March demanding an investigation of the incident and punishment of the perpetrator.
