  October 20, 2023 By: INSEC

In a recent incident, 33-year-old journalist Vivek Kumar Maheta, hailing from Dewanganj Rural Municipality-1, has accused 40-year-old Bechan Khatve, a resident of Dewanganj Rural Municipality-2, of making death threats against him.

Maheta, employed by Sunsari-based Darshan FM and Nagarik Abhiyan Online, claims that Khatve made the threatening remarks during a visit to the Dewanganj rural municipality office on 2nd Kartik, 2080.

Promptly responding to this, the journalist filed a complaint at the Dewanganj local police office on the same day, seeking protection and safety, fearing that Khatve’s threats could jeopardize his work in news and radio.

Additionally, Maheta has submitted a request to INSEC in Sunsari, urging them to take action and ensure justice in the matter.

When INSEC attempted to gather information about the incident from Bechan Khatve, he expressed a willingness to communicate.

Law enforcement agencies have initiated an investigation into the incident based on the complaint lodged by the journalist.

It’s essential to mention that the 1998 Declaration on Human Rights Defenders recognizes journalists as human rights defenders.
