Interim Order Against Implementation of Citizenship Act
The Supreme Court has given a short-term interim order to the government not to immediately implement the Citizenship First Amendment Act (2022) approved by President Ramchandra Paudel on May 31, 2023.
The bench of Judge Manoj Sharma gave a short-term interim order, on June 4, in the name of the government while hearing the petition filed by senior advocates Surendra Bhandari, Balkrishna Neupane, and others in the Supreme Court against the bill approved by President Paudel.
The Supreme Court has called both the writ petitioner and the respondent for a discussion on June 9.
According to the request of the Council of Ministers on May 26, the current President Paudel on May 31 certified the bill as per Articles 61 and 66 of the Constitution.
