INSEC Expresses Condolences on Demise of Human Rights Activist Dhungana

INSEC has expressed sorrow over the demise of human rights activist and senior proponent of democracy, former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana, who passed away at the age of 83 during treatment on November 17.

In a condolence statement issued by Issues on November 18, INSEC Chairperson Kundan Aryal stated, “His guidance in Nepal’s parliamentary history, progressive vision for human rights, and role as an architect of the peace process will forever remain in Nepal’s history.” Dr. Aryal also stated that he was concerned about the Parliament’s inability to fully uphold its primary responsibility of protecting people’s rights.

The press release highlights that his role in the peaceful conclusion of the decade long armed conflict, along with his contributions to establishing democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, will always be remembered.
