INSEC Assisted Victim in Going Through Legal Process

Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC), Karnali Province Office, Surkhet provided financial assistance to Sarma Rawat, 27, of Tila Rural Municipality-1, Raralihi on May 12. Sarma  was unable to go through the legal process due to her weak financial condition.

The check of financial assistance to the victim was handed over by Chief Dhanraj Shahi of National Human Rights Commission, Karnali Province Office ,Jumla.

The victim informed that her 28-year-old husband, Hari Bahadur Budha, repeatedly subjected her to domestic violence by torturing her physically and mentally. She got married to her husband in September 2009 and has a son and a daughter. She said she was evicted from their home on Vijaya Dashami night in 2023.

The victim is currently living on rent with her 10-year-old daughter in Chandannath Municipality-6 , the headquarter of Jumla, Khalanga. She informed that she filed for divorce at the Jumla district court on November 21, 2023. The victim subsequently submitted an application to INSEC  asking for financial support on April 19, 2024 as she was facing financial difficulties to afford the legal as well as travel expenses for her case.

Narayan Subedi, the Coordinator of INSEC Karnali Province informed that the victim was provided with a financial assistance of Rs 7000 as per the decision made from the meeting held by the human rights help desk on 30 April. Subedi added that the financial aid will help the victims with the application fees, photocopies and travel expenses while going through the judicial process.
