Inmates and Detainees facing difficulties due to overcrowded prison
The District Prison of Jumla is facing difficulties in managing inmates and detainees due to the lack of space. There are two time more inmates and detainees in the prison.
According to the District prison office, the prison has a capacity to accommodate only 20 inmates and detainees however there are 37 inmates including 22 detainees. The prison has two buildings which have a capacity to accommodate 20 inmates including 10 male and 10 female. The inmates and detainees are having several problem including sleeping due to the overcrowded prison according to prison guard Surya Bahadur Mahari. There are total of 34 male and three female inmates and detainees in the prison.
There are no facilities of entertainment and extra activities in the prison according to acting CDO and jailer Bishnu Prasad Neupane.
This has created a problem among the inmates to pass their time according to inmate Rajendra Shah. He added that it would have been easier to pass their time if there were any skill development activities in the prison.
