Impeachment motion filed against CJ Karki

 An impeachment motion against Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been filed at the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat today according to RSS.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Min Bahadur Bishwokarma is the proposer of the impeachment motion while it was seconded by Chief Whip of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Tek Bahadur Basnet.
The impeachment motion was registered at the Parliament Secretariat at 4:00 pm along with the signatures of 249 lawmakers of both government coalition parties. It was registered as per Article 101 (b) of the Constitution, accusing CJ Karki of interfering on the executive rights of the government and delivering verdicts by distorting facts in the appointment of Inspector General of Police, among others, said lawmaker Bishwokarma.
The impeachment motion has claimed that CJ Karki formed benches, picking particular Justices and herself arbitrarily, though there are 19 Justices at SC, thereby questioning the independence and impartiality of judiciary. She also directed the Justices to deliver the verdict in her line.
Lawmaker Bishwokarma further informed that the impeachment motion against her was filed bearing the signatures of one fourth of the members available in the Parliament in line with Rule 168 (a) of Parliament Regulation 2073 by accusing her of meting out unequal behaviour to the Justices, involving in the groupism and meddling in delivering the verdicts.
There is a legal provision that the CJ is suspended immediately after the registration of impeachment motion.
