Hospital Under-Construction Lingers Due to the Contractor’s Negligence
Construction work of the municipal hospital that started back in 2021 with the aim of providing easy access to healthcare services to the citizens of Tamankhola Rural Municipality- most rural part of the district, has halted owing to the contractor’s negligence.
The locals have been deprived of the treatment because of the delay in construction work. Construction of Tamankhola elementary hospital was initiated at Tamankhola Rural Municipality-5 under ‘one municipality, one elementary hospital’ policy of the government.
Gyan Jyoti-Kunwar, JB had received the project for the construction of hospital on 4 July 2020. No other construction work apart from laying 12 pillars has been initiated in the hospital with the construction budget of 13 crore. The construction should have completed by now however, only 10% of the work has been completed so far.
Locals, who were delighted by the hope of receiving health services at their own village are now expressing disappointment. As per local Purna Bahadur BK, even though there are health posts in the village, there is no treatment available except for common colds and coughs.
Construction company has extended the construction period till 5 January 2024. Chairperson of ward no. 5, Hari Bahadur BK informed that the construction company has been making excuses and delaying the work despite receiving continuous reminder from the ward.
As per BK, ward office had arranged electricity, drinking water and accommodation for the workers to motivate them to complete the work on time. Even though the locals and the representatives are supporting them to ease the process, the company has failed to complete its work.
The hospital is going to be built with the budget allocated by the federal government. Head of Baglung Urban and Building Construction Project office informed that the contract will be terminated if the company fails to deliver the work within the extended period.
