High Court Ordered to Recount Votes Within a Month in Byas Municipality

The Pokhara High Court has ordered recounting votes in Byas Municipality, Tanahun within a month.

Deputy registrar Ram Bahadur Thapa of  High Court , Pokhara said that Dipakraj Joshi, a candidate who lost in the local level elections for Mayor held in April 2022, registered a case for recounting of votes in the High Court of Pokhara on May 26, 2022. Following this, the bench of Judges Rajan Prasad Bhattarai and Nirmala Poudel Bhattarai on 14 May ordered the recount of the votes .

In that election,  Baikunthanath Neupane, candidate from Nepali Congress won the election by 252 votes. Neupane got a total of 12,078 votes while Joshi of UML got 11,826 votes. Subsequently, Joshi registered a case demanding a recount of the votes claiming that he lost due to a mistake in the counting.

Deputy Registrar Thapa stated that the High Court, in coordination with Registrar Achyut Kuikel, has also ordered for the provision of necessary staff for the recounting of votes.
