Health workers at Makaising Primary Health Center, Gandaki Rural Municipality-1, stopped service delivery on September 17 in protest against the beating of medical officer Dilip Kumar Kushwaha. Kushwaha has alleged that a group led by former ward Chairperson Deubahadur Gurung of ward-2, from the same rural municipality, beat him. Gurung, however, claimed that the mistreatment was initiated by the health workers.

In the press release, it is stated, “We protest the misbehaving of the medical officer in charge while providing services at Tanglichok Health Center under the door-to-door doctor program run by the rural municipality.” It also mentions that the employees of the health institution felt unsafe after being attacked while leaving their facility to serve citizens during their duty hours. The statement further mentions that the health workers cannot perform their duties in fear and panic.

The municipality stated that efforts are being made to resolve the dispute. Rijesh Uparkoti, the Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, mentioned that discussions took place at Tanglichok Health Post on September 16. He indicated that further discussions will be held to resolve the issue. The police reported that no complaint has been filed in this regard.
