Health Facilities Provided to Over 1,000 Senior Citizens Through Door-to-Door Campaign
Beni Municipality has provided services to over 1,700 senior citizens, people with physical disabilities, and chronic patients within its area through the ‘Health Worker in Door-to-Door’ campaign. This initiative aims to deliver health services directly to senior citizens aged 70 and above at their doorstep, benefiting both the recipients and the community.
Mayor Surat KC of Beni Municipality informed that the ‘Health Worker in Door-to-Door’ program targeting senior citizens through ward-level outreach has been effective. He stated that implementing this program was their top priority after being elected as the Municipality Chief and it has proven to be effective. This initiative has eliminated the need for citizens to travel to the headquarters for health services, greatly benefiting senior citizens. KC signed the first decision to launch the program of deploying health workers to the homes of senior citizens after his election in the local level elections.
Public Health Officer Chandan Subedi of the Beni Municipality informed that the program is being conducted effectively in eight Wards of Beni Municipality. In addition, due to wards 7 and 8 being situated in the Beni market area, the program is regularly conducted in other wards apart from this. Every month, health workers visit senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and the needy at their homes to provide healthcare services.
The objective of the campaign is to identify health issues and reduce healthcare costs for senior citizens. It aims to monitor the health of senior citizens every month and prepare their health profiles. Health workers visit homes to provide healthcare services to citizens aged 70 and above and people with disabilities. They administer medications after monitoring and offer psychosocial counseling services as part of the program.
According to Subedi, the program has been implemented with a total budget of Rs 8,80,000 in the fiscal year 2023/2024. Senior citizens aged 70 years and above, and patients with disability have directly benefited from this initiative.
Mayor KC of Beni Municipality stated that the federal government has acknowledged the program and is striving to conduct this campaign in every household of other Municipalities. This program includes regular health check-ups, specifically focusing on monitoring sugar levels and blood pressure. Additionally, it provides information to chronic patients regarding medication and addresses other health concerns.
