Four Found Guilty in Nuwakot Gang Rape Case

The Nuwakot District Court has convicted four accused in the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl, while one minor has been acquitted. Registrar Khem Kumari Basnet informed that the bench of District Judge Subhash Babu Puri sentenced four people to imprisonment and acquitted one on July 2, 2024.

According to the court, 19-year-old Nirmal Kumar Tamang was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500,000, compensation of Rs 40,000, and Rs 20,000 to be deposited in the victims’ relief fund. Similarly, a 17-year-old juvenile was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 330,000, compensation of Rs 30,000, and Rs 13,200 for the victims’ relief fund. Additionally, two juveniles aged 15 and 16 were each sentenced to seven years of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 250,000, and compensation of Rs 30,000. A 13-year-old boy accused of involvement in the same incident was acquitted.

A complaint against the five people was filed at the District Police Office on April 18, 2023, charging them of gang-raping a 15-year-old girl at a cowshed in Sukute on April 16, 2023. Subsequently, the accused were arrested on the same day. The health examination of the victim was done on April 18 at Trishuli Hospital.

The District Court ordered the release of the 13-year-old child on May 10, 2023, and remanded the remaining four. Nirmal Kumar Tamang, 19 was sent to the District Jail, and the three juveniles were sent to the Children’s Reform Home in Bhaktapur.
