Floods and Landslides Caused Damage to Bethanchowk Rural Municipality Building (Photo Feature)
Bethanchowk Rural Municipality reported that flooding has caused damage to its office building, making daily operations difficult. Floodwaters, along with mud, have entered the offices of the chairperson, vice-chairperson, chief administrative officer, and various branches of the office. Administrative Officer Rajendra Bhandari stated that after floodwaters with mud damaged the first floor of the Rural Municipality office building, the Municipality has been providing services from the under-construction upper floor to continue daily operations. He stated that ‘stopping services during a disaster only creates more problems, so we must work in any way possible. We are working day and night and utilizing all available resources in the office to provide services.’
Similarly, the Administrative Officer Bishwanath Dahal stated that the ground floor of the building housed the offices of the chairperson, vice-chairperson, chief administrative officer, accounting branch, and other departments. The flood has caused complete damage to important documents, computers, electrical equipment, and furniture. The flooding has also damaged important documents and inventory records in the office. The preliminary data shows 3,727 households have been affected by the floods and landslides. A total of 18,856 individuals, including 9,916 women and 8,940 men, have been impacted by the disaster. Administrative Officer Dahal also reported that 13 people lost their lives in Bethanchowk Rural Municipality due to the disaster. Additionally, the initial data indicates that 245 families are displaced. Dahal further reported that three schools have been completely destroyed, and 23 schools have sustained partial damage. Additionally, one health post has been fully destroyed, while five health posts have faced partial damage.
Not only the Municipality building but also the ward office buildings in Bethanchowk have faced damage. Floods and landslides have caused damage to the ward offices of Wards 2, 3, 4, and 5. The buildings of Ward 3 and Ward 5 have been affected by landslides around their premises.
