Due to the extreme flood and landslide that occurred on October 5, 2022, 35 people lost their lives in eight out of 10 districts of Karnali Province.

According to the Karnali Province Police Office, Surkhet, 35 died in floods and landslides that occurred from October 5 to October 12. Besides that, 20 people are missing and 23 people are injured.

Ten people have died in the Jumla district while the least one has died in Dailekh. Similarly, eight people died in Mugu, five in Kalikot, four in Humla, three in Jajarkot, and two each in Salyan and Dolpa.

Most of the people have gone missing in Kalikot district due to floods. In Kalikot, 18 people, including a policeman, have gone missing, and one each in Jumla and Dailekh.

Similarly, SSP Madhav Shrestha of Karnali Province Police Office Surkhet informed that seven people were injured in the flood in Kalikot, six in Humla, five in Mugu, three in Jumla, one each in Jajarkot and Rukumpaschim.

2900 Households Displaced

Due to floods in Karnali province, 2,889 families of 480 houses in 10 districts have been displaced. Chief District Officer Mukesh Kumar Keshari has said that 1,113 people from 86 houses in Jumla have been displaced. According to him, the displaced families have pitched tents in the open ground including the school premises. Tents and food provisions have been arranged for their immediate relief.

Similarly, 45 people from eight houses in Surkhet, 511 people from 113 houses in Dailekh, 10 from two houses in Jajarkot, nine from Salyan, three from Rukum Paschim, 344 people from 48 houses in Kalikot, 700 people from 178 houses in Mugu, 155 people from 40 houses in Humla and four houses in Dolpa were displaced.
