Somnath Paudel, 45, of Ward No. 5, Birtamod Municipality, is accused of inciting caste based discrimination by Dambar Bahadur Giri, 40, of Ward No. 2, Haldibari Municipality.

Former chairperson of the District Coordination Committee, Paudel, alleges that former vice-chairman of Haldibari Municipality, Giri, made discriminatory remarks over the phone.

“When Giri called me on March 31, 2024, I was speaking in another room. Later, when I called back, Giri said, ‘Kami, Tharu,’ indicating caste-based discrimination,” said Paudel. “I have fought against caste based discrimination for a long time, but now I have become a victim of discrimination myself,” added the aggrieved Paudel.

The victim, Paudel, has reported that the accused made discriminatory remarks over the phone, and the conversation has been recorded and handed over to the local police office in Anarmani.

DSP Krishna Chand from the District Police Office confirmed the information about the remark and stated that the investigation process is underway.

Accused Dambar Bahadur Giri, after expressing his allegations against Somnath Paudel of Haldibari Municipality, admitted to making remarks over the phone.
