Fear-free atmosphere for election: NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said there was fear-free atmosphere for imminent local level election in the province no 1 of the country. NHRC team led by its Member Sudip Pathak visited various districts in the province, held discussions with security officials and local administrations and reached this conclusion on Monday. Organizing a press meet, the NHRC, however, drew the attentions of the government and Election Commission to make the voting and vote count transparent. Similarly, easy access of disabled and elderly voters should be ensured, the NHRC team said, adding that the Election Commission must be aware on preventing the incidents of human rights violations in the silent period. It suggested the election observers and media persons to conduct monitoring and news reporting by abiding by their codes of conduct.
