Electricity service has been disrupted due to road damage near Dharapori, Simkot Rural Municipality-7, causing problems for 250 households in Dharapori and Chaugandhaya. On November 3, 2024, a dry landslide blocked the electricity service operated by the Hildum Power Distribution Centre leaving the residents of Simkot Rural Municipality-7, Dharapori, and Chaugandhaya to live in darkness.

The road blockage has caused significant difficulties for most patients in Dharapori. Resident Jiwan Singh stated that students, farmers, women, and people with disabilities are facing problems due to road obstruction. The landslide has damaged three electricity poles, resulting in a disruption of power supply. With the power outage, locals are compelled to light the fire, Singh added. Krishna Bahadur Shahi, another resident, explained that the dry landslide has damaged electricity poles on the road section between Dharapori and Chattange along the Simkot-Hilsa route, leaving 70 households in Dharapori and 180 households in Chaugandhaya without electricity. Shahi added that the dry landslide had damaged the road, and due to the lack of an alternative route, children in Dharapori have been deprived of attending school. He further mentioned that women, children, and elderly people are facing significant difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities. Additionally, farmers are finding it challenging to transport their agricultural products.

Resident Ramraj Shahi said that using pine torches causes deforestation on one side and harms people’s health on the other. The smoke also affects people’s eyes and the environment. The dry landslide has damaged the road, completely blocking transportation. The landslide has buried 200 meters of the road, disrupting all traffic. Saroj Rawat, the representative of the construction company, said that although they began road construction, it has been difficult to clear the landslide as dry landslides continue to fall from above.

Prem Lama, Acting Office Chief of Hildum Power Distribution Center, said that the electricity service was interrupted due to the high risk to life while attempting to repair the fallen poles. Lama assured that the electricity service will be restored in the next few days.
