A group claiming to be victims of Suryadarshan Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited threatened Ramakrishna Gyawali, the editor-in-chief of Samadhan Daily and burned copies of the newspaper in front of the District Court in Kaski on August 21. The newspaper published a front-page story titled “GB Raiko Kukarma ko Sikar Bhayeka Anuj,” which reported that Anuj’s son had lost Rs 600,000. The press release states that threatening the editor-in-chief of the newspaper and burning copies of the newspaper over a news story is a violation of the constitution and an attack on freedom of the press and expression. The Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Gandaki Province Committee, has called to identify those involved in such activities and bring them into the legal framework as soon as possible.

Likewise, the Kaski branch of Federation of Nepalese Journalists has issued a statement condemning the recent incident. The statement emphasizes that if there are objections to the news, appropriate actions such as printing a rebuttal or seeking legal remedies should be taken. Burning the newspaper and using threatening language are viewed as attacks on freedom of the press and journalism. The press release strongly demands that the local administration create a safe working environment for journalists and media, while also emphasizing the need to avoid repeating such activities in the future.
