Dolpa Residents Endure Night of Fear Due To Earthquake
An earthquake occurred on the night of November 3 with the epicenter of Barekot Rural Municipality-1 Ramidanda in the neighboring district of Jajarkot. The earthquake resulted in damage to both individuals and property in the districts of Jajarkot and Rukum West.
The citizens living in the area are spending the night under the open sky due to the terror of the earthquak as Dolpa is connected with Jajarkot , similarly Barekot and Mudkechula Jagdulla are on the same border. The local citizens have become more desperate witnessing the terrible loss of life in the neighboring districts of Jajarkot and Rukum West.
Muskan Bohora, a resident of Mudkechula Rural Municipality-6, highlighted that every evening, the village residents resort to lighting fires in the open square and school ground as a precautionary measure against the fear of earthquakes. Additionally, Barekot in Jajarkot is in close proximity, and the earthquake’s epicenter is gradually shifting towards our location. Consequently, residents not only from Narku but also from Ward No. 1 to 9 are compelled to spend the night outdoors due to safety concerns.
Due to the recurrent tremors of earthquakes and the looming possibility of Jajarkot becoming the epicenter, residents in localities such as Jagdulla, Tripurasundari, Thuliveri, Sephoksundo, Kaike, Dolpobuddha, and Charkatangsong in Dolpa are compelled to spend their nights in open squares.while some are forced to sleep at home in fear due to extreme cold.
It is natural for the citizens here to be afraid as most of the houses are built on steep land.
Due to the limited availability of information technology in most district areas, residents are often unaware of earthquake alerts before they occur. This lack of timely information leads to noise and panic as residents, uninformed about the situation, may spread unverified rumors about earthquakes.
As it is extremely cold at this time, children are facing more problems when they stay outside at night due to the fear of earthquakes.
