Distribution of Scarfs and Fruits to Influence Voters
Nepali Congress gathered senior citizen women over 70 years of age at their contact office located in Byas Municipality-3, Damauli, on the occasion of Mothersday on April 20, 2023, and distributed fruits and flowers.
The candidate of Nepali Congress from Tanahun constituency no. 1 Gobind Bhattarai, along with the General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, Central Member Shankar Bhandari, and Member of National Assembly, Ashok Kumar Shrestha, honored senior citizen women by distributing scarfs and fruits.
Chairperson of Nepali Congress Byas Nagar Committee, Suryachandra Hadkhale said that senior citizen women were honored on the occasion of Mother’s Day. He said that this action does not violate the election code of conduct.
District Election Officer Hari Prasad Dhakal said that doing anything to influence the voters is a direct violation of the code of conduct. Dhakal said that as soon as he got the information about this, he asked to stop the program immediately.
It is mentioned in rule number 13 (j) of the Election Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission that no organization or individual should distribute cash or goods, or give grants, financial aid, donations, and prizes.
