Disruption of Drinking Water Supply Affected 900 Households in Solukhumbu

The drinking water supply has been disrupted affecting 900 households after the well under construction at the source of the Necha Bedghari Lifting Drinking Water Project was buried by a flood. Rajib Sharma, a resident informed that the flood on July 10, 2024, buried a nearly three feet high well under construction at Turpu Khola affecting 900 households in Necha Salyan Rural Municipality-4. According to the Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Project, Khotang, 900 families have been affected causing damage of an estimated Rs. 800,000. The total cost of the project is Rs. 213,038,521, as stated by Engineer Ram Bikram Dahal.

Ward Chairperson Indra Bahadur Rai of Ward No. 4 stated that the lack of water supply in the settlement has caused difficulties in maintaining sanitation and feeding livestock. He added that the water supply project was initiated to ensure drinking water for all households as the small water sources in the settlement failed to meet the demand. However, the project faced challenges after being damaged by the flood.
