The prison administration has reported that four individuals involved in a dispute were transferred to different jails after tensions among inmates at Chautara Prison escalated. Jailer Man Bahadur Bik, representing the district jail, stated that the inmates were relocated to other jails within the district on September 17. Rape case accused Bharat Dangal and Ronan Tamang have been transferred to Nuwakot District Prison, while Aisu Lama and Nabin Manak have been moved to Central Jail in Kathmandu, according to Chautara Jail watchman Dhan Bahadur Bharti.

With 149 prisoners in a facility designed for only seven women, inmates at Chautara Prison have been facing numerous challenges. A minor dispute over waiting for turns to use the water supply and toilet facilities escalated on September 16, leading to tensions among the prisoners. Watchman Bharati of the district jail reported that having more prisoners than the facility’s capacity has caused various issues, such as sleeping, eating, moving around, using the toilet, and bathing. Currently, the prison holds 96 inmates and 53 detainees, totaling 149 male prisoners.
